Navgps Pro and Pro/PCFS version 3.6 supports obstructions. Requires av-data release expiring 04/16/2003 or later.
The coverage is for USA and parts of Canada and Central-America. Users in other regions have the option of creating obstruction databases themselves.
How To Use Obstruction Feature
In the Navgps preferences menu, there's a new option - "Minimum Obstruction Display Height".
There's a check-box to the left of that option. If you de-select it - then NO obstructions will be displayed.
To the right there's a number you can enter. This number specifies a value in hundreds of feet (e.g. 5 equals 500 ft). This value is interpreted in one of two ways depending on the display mode:
- Flight-Plan Edit-Mode - Only obstructions higher than the user-set value is displayed. For example, if the value is set to 5 - only obstructions at least 500 ft high will be displayed.
- Normal Map-Mode - When the airplane's altitude comes within the user-set value of the top of the obstruction - it's displayed. For example, if the value is set to 5 - an obstruction will be displayed when the airplane is within 500 ft of the top of the obstruction. Such obstructions will be displayed in orange along with the amount of feet in hundreds the airplane is above the obstruction (e.g. -02 means the top of the obstruction is 200 ft below).
When the airplane's altitude is at or below the top of the obstruction, it's displayed in red. For example in the image above, the +02 means that the top of the obstruction is 200 ft above the airplane's altitude...pitch up...pitch up!
